SEA ~ COMPANY BACKGROUND
Shetland Environmental Agency was started in 1990 by 5 committed Shetlanders including the famous Chris Bunyan. They were all working on ensuring Dounreay Nuclear Power Station was shut down. This group achieved this task and Dounreay is now being decommissioned. The visitor centre of Dounreay is now a member of the Green Tourism Business Scheme an Ecolabel award created by SEA Ltd.
Since SEA was founded it has been managed by Jon Proctor who has steered the company as a specialist partnership and project development company working at the forefront of sustainable development in practice.
The company concentrates on positive actions to achieve a sustainable future.
Our ongoing projects have their own websites (trees4africa and green-business) and we are developing a training and inspirational zone through this site. This site also contains the BLACK FLAG AWARDS (see case studies under PROJECTS).
These are audit awards based upon the darker side of sustainable tourism highlighting extreme corruption and exploitation.
Companies and governments are now fully aware of the crisis we face and it is support and progressive actions and effective partnerships with governments, industry and consumers, which are required.
